Independent Photo Project - Texture
Artist Statement:
Texture has always intrigued me; it is my favorite principle of art. Whenever I see a painting with a thick coat of paint, for instance, I want to reach out and touch the thick globs or streaks of paint. I tried to photograph textures that really caught my eye. I captured all different kinds of textures; poky, smooth, rough, ribbed, etc. I zoomed in very close in order to portray the fine details. One of my strengths with this project was using depth of field to my advantage to bring full attention to the textures. I could have found more of a variety of textures to photograph, but overall I am very happy with the final result.

Inspirational Photos
Artist Statement:
I chose these photos because I felt they have good composition and are quite strong. The quotes I chose go well with the photos, and describe what you see in the photo so the quotes aren't out of place. The fonts I chose compliment the photos quite well in my opinion, enhancing the strength of each one. Something challenging for me was finding quotes to go along with the photo; I didn't want them to be too cheesy. This project was fun for me.

Photo Installation
The goal of my photography installation is to portray that we live in a dark world, and we could always use some light. To complete this project, I painted with light and photographed words that are of importance to me, as I always aim to be my happiest self. I chose to add only one color to my piece, gold, because I feel it is an illuminating color and really brings forth the idea of light. I painted gold lines between each word to show a connection within the significance of positivity in this world. The gold glitter represents scattering light and encouragement throughout the world, especially to the places that need it the most. I made my photographs pop out from the black backdrop because I wanted to infiltrate the concept of coming out of the darkness and into the light.

Magazine Cover
I decided to use Vogue as my magazine cover. I enjoyed placing text on the cover, and experimenting with fonts. I felt as if I were actually working for the magazine.

The purpose of this project was to photograph the faces of GW and to get to know those in my community. The goal is to highlight a variety of people while telling their personal story. Something that challenged me during this project was approaching people and asking for a story. In order to do this, I had to make people comfortable by asking them questions. This improved my ability to take risks by meeting new people. Another thing that challenged me was getting light in both of the subject's eyes. I had to work with black and white filters, as well as shadows and lighting. Overall, I met new people while learning more about those in my community.

Magazine Cover
Throughout creating this magazine cover, I learned a lot about adding text with different fonts and colors to a photograph in Photoshop. I did my best to make it look professional and appear like an actual Vogue magazine cover. With the background photo, I tried to incorporate the Rule of Thirds and good composition.

For this project, I chose to photograph animals, because they are very important to me. I also really enjoy the zoo, and the variety of animals there. I tried to incorporate one specific focus despite the fact that for some of the photos, there were bars in front of the animals. I think I did well with using principles of art and photography.

On my art walk downtown, I took several interesting photographs. The photos above are my top ten favorites. I tried to incorporate many principles of art and capture many perspectives. I photographed a variety of subjects, such as flowers and the buildings of downtown Denver. I was able to practice my photography skills more.

For this project, I chose to photograph myself to illustrate the path of overcoming depression. By using a timer on my camera, I positioned myself to show strength in standing up and growing stronger from being knocked down by harsh words and bad thoughts. I also portrayed this by wearing brighter colors of clothing in each picture to incorporate the idea of becoming happier. In the last picture, I looked at the camera to represent strength. This topic relates to me because of my own personal experience with depression and suicide. My purpose of this project is to give people who believe there is not much hope in life a reason to push forward and trust that with time everything will become better. I mounted my photographs on a stairwell moving upwards to depict the action of gradually improving and growing stronger. The diagonal arrow symbolizes the words that ran through my head at the time I felt there was no hope for happiness. However, near the top, the words become more positive to signify that no matter how negative my thoughts used to be, I overcame my pain.

The purpose of this project was to photograph landscapes in order to portray nature in a unique way. My theme is the Boulder Flatirons. I captured images at several distances and angles, incorporated the Rule of Thirds, space, leading lines, emphasis, and composition. In my contact sheet, I also included some cityscapes; even though those were not a part of my overall theme, I was able to expand my options for landscape photography. I enjoyed this project because if you look at your surroundings from different perspectives, you can capture landscapes in an extraordinary way and make something uninteresting appear more fascinating.

The purpose of this project is to capture Denver in a unique way that is important to us and how we portray Denver. In the first photo, I captured some of the buildings of downtown Denver from a further away location. For the second photo, I photographed the Denver Capitol when the sun was just going down, making it appear purely golden. This project was somewhat challenging for me because it was tough to find a good location to photograph something that portrayed Denver from my point of view. However, I am pleased with the results.

For my project, I chose to use a ninja turtle as a toy to "bring to life". In the first image, because there is no background, it seems as if this object could be life size. In the second image, I zoomed in as much as possible to make the ninja turtle appear as real as possible. This project was challenging for me because I had to make a tiny toy look like it "came to life". It was difficult to find the best angles from which to take the photo from.
The Egg Project
Sublime Egg![]()
The images above portray a sublime egg. In the first photograph, the Rule of Thirds is incorporated in the location of the egg. The lines of the tree branches join where the egg is, giving emphasis that the egg is the most important thing in the image. The blurry background makes it clear that the egg is the main focus. In the second photograph, emphasis is added to the egg with light shining directly on it and making it appear bright white. The surrounding leaves contain color and texture as well as the contrast between the shadow on the egg and the white color of the egg. The leaves add texture to the photo, and the color of the leaves are used to contrast the white egg in both photos.

Creative Egg![]()
The images above portray a creative egg. In the first photograph, the egg is being held up high in the air giving off the idea that it is very important. The background is blurred, putting emphasis on the egg. In the second photograph, the egg is wrapped in the hands making it seem as if it is very precious and should be handled carefully. As well as in the first image, because of the crown drawn on the egg, it seems as if the egg is something very important. The stripes on the shirt all point towards the middle, where the egg is. There is contrast within the white of the egg and the darker color of the shirt.
